Course Description
This one-year programme, validated by QQI, is designed for students seeking to train for a career in Accounting and Finance.
Students learn essential skills to progress to an Accounting Technician Apprenticeship. It is also ideal for students who wish to gain points for Business or Arts courses in Third Level colleges.
There is an emphasis on developing workplace skills in the areas of Bookkeeping, Accounting, Taxation, and Spreadsheets. This course introduces learners to key business techniques and concepts and the factors which influence business success.
*This is a daytime course (Monday – Friday), school hours, from Mid-September to April (8 months). One day per week will be in the work setting.

Work Placement
Work experience is an important element of this programme and we will assist you in securing work experience.
Many graduates obtain employment as a result of their work experience placement. Work placement is arranged in professional accounting offices and business firms.
Entry Requirements
QQI L4 or equivalent for all Level 5 courses.
If the Leaving Certificate has been completed, details should be submitted with your application.
Mature learners may be exempt from the academic requirements.
First round offers will be made in May to all eligible applicants with subsequent offers made in September.
Progression
An Accounting Technician supports the work of accountants by undertaking a wide range of accountancy, financial, and taxation tasks.
Graduates of this course fulfil the minimum requirements to be registered as an Accounting Technician Apprentice and train in a professional accountants’ office or in a local business.
Through the QQI FET Links Scheme, graduates can apply for entry to Year 1 of related Business courses in Universities and Institutes of Technology with continuity of SUSI grant / BTEI if applicable.
