Course Description
This one-year programme, validated by QQI, introduces students to the theory and practice of the key areas of Social Studies and Social Care.
This is the ideal starting point for students who wish to progress to further studies or gain employment in the sector.
The course equips students with the basic skills to work in community agencies such as community and voluntary organisations, family resource centres, and youth organisations.
*This is a daytime course (Monday – Friday), school hours, from Mid-September to April (8 months).
Work Placement
Work experience is a core element of this programme and we will assist students in securing work experience placements.
Many graduates obtain employment as a result of their work experience placement.
Entry Requirements
QQI L4 or equivalent for all Level 5 courses.
If the Leaving Certificate has been completed, details should be submitted with your application.
Mature learners may be exempt from the academic requirements.
First round offers will be made in May to all eligible applicants with subsequent offers made in September.

Course Certification
This course provides graduates with a QQI Level 5 Applied Social Studies Major Award 5M2181.
Progression
This course equips students with the skills to work in community agencies such as community and voluntary organisations, family resource centres, and youth organisations.
Through the QQI FET Links Scheme, graduates can apply for entry to Year 1 of related courses in Universities and Institutes of Technology with continuity of SUSI grant / BTEI if applicable.
