Topics during the 8 weeks include:

Meet and greet session. An exciting activity at the start of class completely immerses the learner in the language, and by the end they will be able to communicate basic information about themselves. Following from this we will go through the alphabet. The class will then develop into acquiring the survival skills for a basic conversation with a local Spaniard!

Indicative course outline:

Week 1

  • Review of the Spanish Beginners course (greetings, numbers, my family)

Week 2

  • Days of the week, months of the year, seasons of the year:
    • How to say what date it is
    • How to say what date it is
    • How describe some activities you do
  • The weather:
    • How to describe the weather and seasons

Week 3, 4 & 5

  • In the City (directions):
    • Learning the name of the main buildings
    • How to ask for information in the tourist office
    • How to ask for and give directions
    • Frequently asked questions and answers

Week 6, 7 & 8

  • Las vacaciones:
    • How to make your way around a Spanish airport
    • How to buy a train ticket
    • How to understand a brochure on a Spanish hotel
    • How to book a room
    • How to talk about your holidays
    • Learning verbs: “viajar” to travel, “pasar” to spend (time), (money), “quedarse” to stay, nadar “to swim, “alojarse” to stay, “tomar el sol “to sunbathe, sacar fotos “to take photos, tumbarse “to lie down

    Fees are paid in full on enrolment and are refunded if course does not run. The college reserves the right to close a course and refund fees by electronic transfer. There is a charge of €20 per module for QQI certification. All other courses must remain viable and be self-financing: therefore NO REFUNDS, under any circumstances, are available once a course has commenced. A participant will not be permitted to commence a course unless it has been paid for in full by the learner prior to commencement
